10 Things I Know to be True

First of all, I’d like to thank all of you for hanging in there and patiently waiting for my next blog post.  You are patient and a little bit crazy (you have to be to be following my blog) and I love you.

These are some of the things that I have learned from my forty something years of life and I hope something inspires change in your life.  I’ve had a lot of tough lessons but I am grateful for all of them because without them, I would not be the survivor that I am today.

1.  Love is a choice.  Love is not something that you “fall into”, it is something that you make a conscious choice to do, each and every day.  Love is not a fleeting emotion, but a solid action of mind, body and soul.   You get up each day and choose to love the person lying beside you, in spite of all of their flaws and failings, you make a choice and you love them with all of your being.  Choose love.

2.  Everyone leaves eventually.  We all have people in our lives that mean something to us.  Some are mere acquaintances  who might shed a little light on our everyday lives and others mean as much to us as our oxygen supply.  Regardless of how much they mean to us and how big a role they play in our lives, everyone leaves eventually.  Whether they move away, die, or we  just slowly drift apart, we lose them in one way or another.  Make sure that the people in your life know what they mean to you because you never know how long they will be there.

3.  Your pets love you unconditionally, be kind to them.   Whether you have a dog, cat, rodent, reptile or bird, they depend on you for food, water, care and affection.  Don’t let them down.  You affection will be returned tenfold.  And whenever possible, adopt – don’t shop.

4.  Your children are a reflection of you.  Take the time to teach them right from wrong and you will never get a call in the middle of the night to bail them out.  At the same time, let them work for their own luxuries to learn the value of a dollar and let them make mistakes so that they may learn from them.

6.  If we don’t start taking care of our planet, future generations wont have a suitable place to live.  Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.  It’s not just a slogan, it needs to be a way of life.  BE the change you want to see in the world.

7.  Wasting time regretting the past and worrying about the future, will prevent you from truly enjoying the present.  Today is a gift.  Live it well.

8.  Not everyone will like you, so be yourself and befriend those who love and accept the real you.

9.  Life isn’t always fair.  Accept it.  You won’t always get what you deserve and if you accept that, you will save yourself a lot of bitterness.

10.  Gratitude turns what we have into enough.  Be grateful for everything in your life.

      • Well being naughty is just
second nature to some of us :) ;) lol

I hope you are enjoying everything
this fine evening (your evening – and
my morning that is :) )

          • You need the help of a few man-slaves
to keep you nice and chilled, well they could
have other ideas but just keep them trained
and you won’t have any problems :)

Here it is rather chilly for July :(

          • Man-slaves? Sounds intriguing…even though I am usually the one wearing the collar and cuffs. I never say no to new experiences though. ;-) You can have our heat anytime Andro…it’s just way too much right now.

          • Yes I know what you mean Wendy,
we are wanting a hotter Summer and
quite the opposite you are wishing it
was much cooler, if only there was a
happy medium :) Best watch out for
those collars and cuffs too as those
can be a tad harsh sometimes :(

Not that Iwould know of course :) lol

  2. Hi Wendy, thank you for the recent comment…very kind of you.
There are all true, but #1 hits home the most. I have been telling people for over a decade that love is a choice, not something that just happens to use. We love our children before they are born because we choose to is an example of that.

#2 Is very important to me, too many pets get neglected and expected to just be good all the time without getting a great deal of attention and affection. I love my two dogs so very much and would do anything for them. They love me know matter what mood I may be in….pets are precious.

I’m very please to have met you, thanks to Andro…good guy he is! :-)
Have a most wonderful day, Wendy! :-) xo

  3. Yes I like all of these that you have chosen to
offer us here but three and six certainly ring out
to me, I guess we could choose any of these
examples as all have a significant place in the
bigger picture, that is life :) Have a fun weekend
and be as naughty as you dare, life is for the
now and the now is always an excellent time for
    wanton wickedness :)

Have a delightful evening Wendy :)

  4. I don’t know what love is. I’m still trying to get a handle on it. I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to. But I know this much, #1 is absolutely right.

    • You know what love is. I truly believe that what you feel for Mark is love. Trust in your own emotions. You are a mature young man and I think you are intelligent enough to know what you want.

  5. Wendy these are all very good, very true and very accurate. Factual. I must say though I love #1 because this is the best definition of Love I have seen in a very long time and #5 because it is a proven fact.

    • Glad you enjoyed them Valentine. And I appreciate what you said about #1. I learned this in couples counseling years ago and I still believe it to be very true. Thanks for visiting!

  6. Such wise words, Wendy. I really liked number one, because I hadn’t thought of it as a choice before. One of the things I try to keep in mind and impart on my kids is the golden rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I tell my kids to abide by that, even when those around them aren’t.

    • That’s a good one as well Carrie and yes, it’s hard to do when others aren’t doing it as well. I had a lot more of these and I’ll do another post eventually. Thanks for the visit and your comment! :-)

  7. I like the “Life isn’t fair” part. Most of us aren’t used to that. Life is not fair, and expecting some external correction mechanism to kiss the boo boo will only make us sadder. Nice post.

    • My mother taught me that when I was young. It doesn’t necessary make the unfairness easier to swallow, but it’s not such a shock when it happens. Thanks for visiting and commenting. :-)
